“A blank CD for a tenner?”, Superthriller present The Blank Album

Imagine if peek period Prince had relocated Paisley Park to a subterranean studio below London Bridge and enlisted Tony Hancock as a writing partner: such is the sound of Superthriller. Not your typical avant-pop combo, Andrew Roland and brothers Ben and Max Ringham, combine warped lo-fi funk, twisted humour and straightforward songwriting genius to create perfect pop nuggets that simultaneously move the hips and tickle the funny bone. Their debut album Superthriller1 caused quite a stir on its release in 2005, and the trio are currently ensconced in the studio plotting their follow up.

Concerned that this hiatus between records would leave Superthriller junkies pining for their hit, the band conceived The Blank Album. In an audacious and unprecedented move, Superthriller propose to sell a fully artworked and exquisitely packaged, yet entirely blank CD for £10. So far, so bad. But rather than being a cold hearted scam, The Blank Album offers Superthriller fans access to a world of new material, B-sides, remixes and outtakes, and the chance to tailor the album to their own specifications. Here’s how it works:

1. Purchase The Blank Album, which is exclusively available via Rough Trade record shops and Rough Trade mail order from 30 October 2006.

2. Insert The Blank Album into any computer with a broadband internet connection

3. Go to www.theblankalbum.co.uk and enter your individual password given in the CD booklet

4. Listen to the 30+ tracks on the site and either:

i) Make your own selection of 25 tracks and sequence as you wish

ii) Choose Superthriller’s own recommended version

5. Burn CD

Simple eh? Sometime in the future all albums will be sold like this, but just remember where you heard it first.
